Serpent in Shadow
Second Age of Dragons
The Second Age of Dragons was a nearly 400 year period where dragons ruled the world of Tiranel. In the year 2208, an elder black dragon named Leruat the Strong organized what is referred to in Dragon as Krzz’it Tahf, or the Second Dying. Under the declaration of Krzz’it Tahf, the dragons systematically destroyed over half of Tiranel’s population. In the aftermath, the dragon’s divided the territories among themselves and demanded ransom from the surrounding population for nearly 200 years. The dragon’s enforced their brutal regime in the population through their dragonborn servitors.
In the year 2789, the dwarven clans of Bargran united the surround regions and staged a revolt. The insurgency culminated in the Battle of Gernak, a 3 year battle led by the dwarf, Tholt Tinaxe. The uprising was successful after a great loss of life. The next 30 years witnessed bloody reprisals and the virtual extinction of dragons across the 3 continents.
The bitter taste of the Second Age of Dragons is still palpable among the citizens of Tiranel. Dragons, dragonborn and other folk of scale are referred to derogatorily as “serpents” or “serpent’s eggs.” To the present day, dragonborn are traded as slaves and treated as chattel.
